Need a Simpler Solution?

Ever had a day where you feel to exhausted but yet you know you have to dose your tank? Why break your head trying to manage your time on when you need to dose your tank. I introduce to you the Bubble Magus BM-T01.

The Bubble Magus BM-T01 is an accurate micro-computer controlled, three-channel dosing pump. Can be used to automatically dose 2-part calcium/alkalinity additives, trace elements, magnesium, strontium, kalkwasser, or just about any liquid additive for your aquarium.

The dosing pump provides 3 dosing channels and can be extended to 7 or 11 channels with the BM-T02. It also features automatic time-sharing between channels so different liquids will not be added to the aquarium at the same time to prevent chemical interference. A microchip with built-in storage memory will save your setting in case of a power outage.

The BM-T01 dosing pump also features high-quality medical-grade rubber hose with an average service life of 10,000 hours and high-torque motors that are quiet and durable. The pump shell is made with automotive instrument-level high-strength self-lubricating plastic POM. The control panel is water-proof with a back-lit LCD display. The programming is simple, clear and intuitive using "man-machine dialogue" operational control. It has a flow that can be set to 1-1999ml on a 24 cycle per day.

The BM-T02 is an extension module for the Bubble Magus BM-T01 Dosing Pump. It adds 4 additional dosing channels (up to 2 BM-T02`s can be added to the BM-T01 for a total of 11 channels). The BM-T02 must be used with the BM-T01 and will not work alone.

Week in Review: 1/28/13

It's Monday so it's time we take a closer look at MarineDepot.com sales and search trends from the previous week. We checked on reactor popularity and were not surprised to find Two Little Fishies Phosban Reactor at the top of the list. We would be more surprised if it weren't! What we didn't expect to see were so many biopellet reactors in the Top 10. Are you running one or more of these reactors as a part of your filtration system?

Dirty Tank? Challenge Accepted

Thursday, January 24, 2013

Want to add a refugium but are limited on space?

Your troubles are over. No need to drill a hole on your tank or sacrifice a chamber. All you need to get started is the CPR AquaFuge2 Hang-On Refugium. It comes in 3 different sizes to suite your needs. Recently redesigned with a black acrylic backing to prevent light from transferring to the main aquarium, each model comes with a powerhead and features a unique baffle system. This prevents the substrate and organisms from being disturbed yet also allows enough water to flow through the eliminate any stagnant areas.

The AquaFuge2 provides ideal growth conditions for food items, such as copepods and ampipods, to feed invertebrates and fish in the main tank. It provides a controlled growing area for macroalgae, which can be used to reduce "nuisance" algae in the main tank and provided a "nursery" area for a variety of organisms.

We recommend the CPR AquaFuge Light. These lights are designed specifically for use with CPR's AquaFuges and feature an attractive silver housing, efficient reflector and a replaceable external starter. These lights have two stand options: the standard grey plastic stands or CPR's handcrafted clear acrylic stands that act as an external brace to provide additional structural support of the AquaFuge. The new CPR lights come in three different bulb wattages: 18W, 24W and 36W. They provide ample light for your refugium inhabitants to stay healthy and happy.

Once you got your refugium and light fixture, it's time to add some life to your fuge. Chaetomorpha is ideal for refugiums. It removes nitrates and phosphates and serves as a home for numerous critters like benthic copepods and amphipods. It also collects detritus and in this way serves as a filter.  Mysid Shrimps and Copepods are a great addition to any marine reef or fish system.

We recommend adding them either to your top tank or to the refugium, or both. Start a population in your system today and all life will thrive. Tisbe is an excellent all-purpose aquarium copepod owing to its role in the natural environment as a detritivore. An opportunist feeder, Tisbe can be used as a tank cleaner consuming uneaten food and wastes as well as phytoplankton in the tank and refugium. Tisbe is capable of producing many eggs during its adult life span that hatch into nauplii which will enter the water column as food for your filter feeding reef inhabitants and replenish the adult population vital to tank hygiene. Tisbe adults and juveniles may also enter the water column and be tasty and nutritious treats for your reef fish!

Southern California aquarium supply wholesaler brings aboard popular UK filter media line

Evolution Aqua PURE Marine Bio Balls
National Aquarium Wholesale Supply announced today they have teamed with United Kingdom-based Evolution Aqua to distribute the company’s popular PURE filter media line to customers in the United States.

“The addition of Evolution Aqua’s PURE product line is an excellent fit for us,” said David King, Chief Operating Officer for NAWS. “Not only will our customers have access to Evolution Aqua’s excellent biofiltration and nutrient control products, we believe aligning our brand with a well-known innovator from across the pond is a great opportunity for NAWS to attract new clientele.”

The U.S. market is ripe with potential to grow the Evolution Aqua brand. According to a 2012 report by the American Pet Products Association, 62% of U.S. households own a pet and 42.3% of pet owners have a freshwater or saltwater fish tank.

NAWS, formally Bayside Aquarium Supply, rebranded itself in 2010 when the 10-year-old company launched a full-service website to give wholesalers 24/7 access to its 7,500 products. NAWS currently serves more than 2,400 wholesale customers, including brick and mortar pet stores, online retailers and aquarium and pond maintenance professionals in the U.S. and abroad.

“Evolution Aqua is delighted to have joined up with NAWS to help make its PURE range of products available to the U.S. fish keeper. Since its launch over three years ago, PURE has quickly become a must-have product for both the serious and amateur British fish keeper,” said Phil Jolly, Sales Director for Evolution Aqua. “PURE has become one of the best-selling lines with most major aquatic retailers throughout the UK. Our catch phrase ‘Have you tried it yet?’ is a question many aquarists are glad they can now answer ‘YES!’ to.”
The first retailer in the U.S. to carry the PURE product line is Inc. 5000 company MarineDepot.com. The well-known online aquarium supply destination is making a splash in social media by inviting aquarium hobbyists to post photos of their dirty aquariums on the company’s Facebook page. The owners of the five dirtiest aquariums will receive a box of Evolution Aqua’s PURE Marine to treat their tanks in what MarineDepot.com calls the PURE Marine Challenge.
“We were excited to test the PURE product line ourselves after reading an article about it earlier this year in Practical Fishkeeping,” said Ben Ros, Director of Operations for MarineDepot.com. “There were noticeable improvements in our office test tank after only a few days. We thought a neat way to get the word out would be to challenge other saltwater aquarium owners to improve their water quality by treating their tanks with it.”
Evolution Aqua has three PURE products available, each targeting a different aquatic biotope: freshwater aquariums, saltwater aquariums and outdoor ponds. The products themselves are essentially semi-transparent biodegradable balls (or “bio balls” as they are referred to by aquarium hobbyists) that consist of bacteria and enzymes which help maintain the biological equilibrium in closed aquatic environment s. They can also be used to recover the bacterial balance following a filter crash or to speed up the maturation process in new filters.

“We are quite proud of our new partnership with Evolution Aqua,” said King. “We expect our respective brands to grow tremendously in 2013 and beyond.”

PURE Marine. Have you tried it yet?
Product Information
PURE Marine should be used regularly as part of your maintenance program to maintain the biological equilibrium. PURE Marine can also be used to recover the bacterial balance following a filter crash or to speed up the maturation process in new filters.
  • PURE Marine is a natural product. It is therefore perfectly normal that the balls may vary in size.
  • PURE Marine will respond to the water conditions in each tank. This means that variation in appearance is normal and the rate of change can vary.
  • Each PURE Marine ball is manufactured from a natural polymer and is biodegradable.
  • As with most bacterial products, the manufacturer recommends the addition of air into your tank using an air pump or venturi.
  • Wash hands after use. Keep in a safe place out of the reach of children. If swallowed, drink plenty of water.
How do I use PURE Marine?
You can use PURE Marine as part of your regular maintenance program. You cannot overdose with PURE Marine. To maintain crystal clear healthy water, add 3 x PURE Marine balls for every 10 gallons of water once per week into your marine aquarium filter. Alternatively, place the balls in a filter bag and position in the tank or the filter in an area with good flow. Alternatively, place the balls in a filter bag and position in the tank or the filter in an area with good flow. Each package contains approximately 50 balls. There are freshwater and pond formulas available as well.
