Q&A with Keith, 6/12/09

I have an extra
Two Little Fishies Phosban Reactor. Can it be used as a nitrate reactor? If so, would SeaChem de*nitrate be a good choice for media? Last question: what are the best nitrate test kits?

You can definitely turn Two Little Fishies Phosban Reactor into a nitrate reactor.

The key is to have very low flow going through it, almost to the point where the water is literally dripping out.

SeaChem de*nitrate is a great choice, along with Kent Marine Nitrate Sponge. The product description for Kent Marine’s Nitrate Sponge also explains how to setup a nitrate filter using their media, which may be helpful.

For nitrate kits, I prefer Salifert, SeaChem and API. I have used each of them and find all to be accurate and easy to use.
