Cool Aquarium Products You May Not Know About, But Should!

Keeping a fish tank definitely takes some effort, especially if you want to create an aquarium that is worthy of discussion among your friends and family.

Thankfully, Marine Depot carries a wide array of products specifically designed to make your aquarium keeping experience just a bit easier. We compiled a list of our favorite unique and super helpful aquarium tools that you may not even know existed that will surely make your life easier.

Keeping your equipment in tip top shape is important for the longevity of the product as well as the health of your tank.  Having your pump fail or go out on you can be a real pain especially if it happens at a time when driving to your local fish store to pick up a replacement is not exactly an option.

We recommend that you thoroughly inspect and clean all the pumps running on your aquarium every 3 – 6 months.  By doing this, you will remove calcium build up that can shorten the total lifespan of a pump and even cause a failure.

The Tunze Cleaning Set is a great little kit that includes various tools that are specifically designed to help you clean your pumps.  While the kit was made by Tunze specifically for use on their Turbelle line of pumps, the tools are actually perfect for just about any pump on the market.  The kit includes various size bottle brushes that are perfect for cleaning out little notches are crevices, some citric acid solution with a spray bottle to help remove calcium build up, as well as a cleaning cloth to wipe down your tank.  The larger brushes can also be used to clean out your skimmer neck and those hard to reach areas of your sump or filters.

Feeding your fish is one of the more pleasurable daily duties that come with keeping an aquarium.  For many of us, feeding the tank may be the only chance we get to observe and enjoy the tank on a regular basis.  The Innovative Marine Gourmet Gadget Kit is a set of three different feeding tools that help take the hassle out of feeding your tank, no matter what type of fish you have to feed.

The Gourmet Defroster is a magnetically mounted frozen food dispenser that allows you to throw in a chunk of frozen food and adjust the rate at which the food is dispensed from a central location.  This helps you get food to all inhabitants of your tank and keeps the food out of your filters.  The device can also be used as a feeding ring by simply removing the clear cylinders.

The Gourmet Grinder is a very unique tool that allows you to quickly and easily grind up and dispense flake or pellet food into your aquarium without ever touching the food.  The grinder holds a wide variety of flakes or pellet and just push the button to grind up and dispense food.  The little water level indicator tells you how far to submerse the grinder which then dispenses the food underwater and prevents the pellets from floating on the surface and going into your filters.

Have you ever bought the wrong size pellets for your fish?  Well the gourmet grinder is the perfect solution to make use of that food.

Finally, the Gourmet Grazer which is a magnetically mounted seaweed holder that secures seaweed inside your aquarium to allow your herbivorous fish to naturally graze on the food throughout the day, just like they would in the wild.  This then allows you to easily remove any uneaten seaweed quickly from the tank to avoid nutrient level spikes and help prevent nuisance algae all while making it easy to offer the proper diet to your fish.

The Marine Depot Frag Cave is another cool product that allows you to grow and mount frags in your tank without having to stare at an industrial looking acrylic frag rack.  Lets be honest, not all of us have the time to keep a separate frag tank but that doesn’t mean we should miss out on the fun of trading frags with friends.

The Frag cave is a fired ceramic cave that looks like a natural rock.  It is available in two sizes, one for up to 6 frags and one for up to 10 frags.  Each frag plug can easily be removed and replaced.  Once introduced into your tank, the cave will provide and excellent habitat for your fish and inverts and will seamlessly blend into the rest of your aquascape.

A Coral Viewer is a simple device that has been around for some time but not all of us really understand that benefits of having one at home.  In fish stores, these devices are used to get a clear top down view of corals for sale.  They also offer a unique angle for photographing your corals from the top down.  The little acrylic chambers can also double as a container for temporarily holding frags, defrosting frozen food, or even acclimating new arrivals!

What is your favorite use of a coral viewer?

With technology advancements, the ability to integrate a wifi camera into your aquarium controller has been around for a few years.  But up until now, we have not seen a submersible version of these wifi cameras offered at such an affordable price.  The new Ice Cap Reef Cam is a submersible wifi camera that allows you to view and monitor your tank directly form your smartphone. Tablet or computer.  The camera hooks up to your home wifi network, you then log in to the app on your smartphone, tablet or PC to get a live view of your tank from anywhere in the world!
